A curious mind is a valuable tool to have. It’s the key to unlocking creativity and purpose in ourselves and others.
The questions you ask yourself, and can answer truthfully, will result in the quality you see in your life.
Questions are like the combination dial on a locked safe. If we take the time required to try the different combinations, the right one can give us access to incredible insight about ourselves.
People who have accomplished amazing things are often in the habit of asking themselves these quality questions every day.
My favourite example is Steve Jobs. In his famous 2005 Stanford commencement speech, he revealed that for 33 years he had asked himself this question every single morning before work;
“If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today?”
He said If the answer was ‘no’ for too many days in a row, he knew he needed to change something.
Quality questions are as much about understanding ourselves as they are about understanding the world around us.
They are often tough to answer right away because they invite us to think deeply, be honest, and also be accountable for our answers.
But they are worth persisting with.
Each honest answer reveals a little bit more of the whole picture to help you understand the bigger questions ‘who am I?’ and ‘what would I love to do to make a difference in the world?’
These are valuable insights worth investing the time to try to uncover.
